Illegal Immigration: Line? What Line?

The immigration issue has had more effect thus far on the election than expected, it seemd like the war and/ or terrorism issues would determine how the race would go...but then the illegal immigration bill came up in Congress that has undermined McCain and made Tancredo's place in the race seem less weird...or at least more pertinent to the race as the candidate who wants to 'build a fence'?

This article titled GOP Loosing Support with Hispanic Voters, adequately explains the disconnect between what most Republicans want and what is being percieved as their wishes by the Hispanic voters..ironically, most Republicans and Hispanic voters share values which should pull them together as voters..but.....instead the illegal immigration issue is causing a rift.

What really boggles the mind is that most Republicans and Americans are not racist against Hispanics nor against legal immigration...immigrants are good for America, they are good for the economy, they remind all of us how great this country is and they breath new life into it...it's just that letting people into the country against the law without tracking them because big businesses like it and the wealthy benefit from it...makes regular people unreasonably angry...

There is no denying that some people are racists, but that is a problem anywhere, everywhere and in all political groups....regardless of race, creed or religion. In other words some people are just jerks who hate (period).

The Republican working and middle class base is just offended by the idea that a specific group of people should be let into the country illegally and against the law. Something does need to be done to reform illegal immigration on the southern border in this country...to protect the country and to make immigration fair for everyone....there just doesn't seem to be a good policy solution on the table yet...in the meantime individual counties in each state are creating their own policies on illegal immigrants which is getting more interesting by the day. Maybe this issue just can't be solved by the Federal Government, but make no mistake, it will be dealt with by the American people.

And now as a breather Ross Douthat's guide to understanding the GOP candidates, a good read, as most voters are still trying to figure out who they really like...if any of the current GOP contenders.
