Wednseday Rewind

Yesterday's News cycle was very packed and almost random with the stock market dropping sharply before correcting itself, Fred Thompson dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination, the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and finally the strange death of Heath Ledger.

In local news here in DC, 3 teenagers were shot dead near a local school in SE near the capitol. It was a really busy weird day with all sorts of things happening that would mean a lot to the population at large while being very upsetting to specific groups. What was in the water exactly on January 22, 2008? And what does it mean for the Presidential race?

Well let's start with the dip in the DOW, that has been corrected, but only because the Feds got involved early in the morning yesterday to avert what could have been a crash. Not a fun thought, maybe someone asked Thompson to make his announcement yesterday to draw attention away from something that can cause people to panic and cause a run on the banks...or something.

The or something is that Thompson may have thought it was as good a time as any to withdraw since he has been on that course for awhile. If he had performed more poorly in Iowa he could have quit sooner...maybe. Whatever the case the DOW did drop again today before correcting itself, thank goodness it keeps doing that..but it is starting to feel one is watching a woman who drops her baby and catches it at the last minute before it's head hits the concrete. (STOP IT!)

This action provides more fodder for someone like Mitt Romney who has experience in the business world to talk about their experience and makes McCain look less helpful to the country. Whatever the liberal media is trying to accomplish by talking about the losses in the job market and ignoring the successes in IRAQ- they are in a way downplaying McCain's strength of military experience and playing up Romney's abilities....because they certainly aren't providing an argument for why Hillary or Barak should be in office.....although...didn't George Bush loose to Bill Clinton because the country was in a recession and forgot about his success back then in Iraq? Hmmmmm.

Huckabee, well, huck that idea. VP, think VP.

Finally the anniversary of ROE vs. Wade which was huge in 2005 was mostly overlooked this year, but if the topic comes back up among Conservatives, McCain has the better rating as a pro life person, although Romney has mostly settled the issue of his pro life stance...then again, McCain has repeatedly blown off the Conservatives in his race over the last year..anyone remember CPAC last year? So...they almost cancel each other out in that area.

And the death of Heath Ledger, serves as a reminder that no matter how much success anyone has, people have losses and failures (his wife kicked him out and away from his new daughter in September due to his problems) which can easily isolate them from others very quickly sending them into a spiral that can end very badly. This blogger found herself wondering what an autopsy would produce..and it looks as if some early reports are predicting a history of self abuse. One has to wonder, if people have been as involved in his life as they are in Britney Spears...would he be dead?

As tempting as it is to ascribe liberal Hollywood characteristics to his death and the political race, now just isn't the time.

It was a really weird day in the news.
