Well, Fidel Castro is stepping down in Cuba as the leader....it's so easy in dictatorships to change the leadership without really changing anything, Cuba will still be Communist at least for awhile. Although the idea of Raul Castro taking over brings with it the potential for Cuba to really change...does anyone see the irony in Fidel stepping down because of health problems in a country with really bad health care?? Heck, if he was a dictator in the U.S. he'd be doing his thing until he was 100 probably.... he still gets the best that Cuba has to offer, it's just that their health care is not very good. But hey, if Michael Moore likes it...one thought comes to mind and that is the worst people when given enough rope eventually hang themselves.
Anyways, speaking of people doing themselves in, it looks like Barack and Hillary are doing themselves in by fighting, and things look especially nasty when it comes to the super delegates.
The two campaigns have been fighting each other tooth and nail as Hillary as been loosing support to Barack Obama.
Clinton needs to do something to break Barack Obama's momentum. Her rival has won in eight straight states, including decisive victories last week in Virginia and Maryland, and has begun to diminish her edge with core supporters like women and the elderly.
A recent Time article questioned whether or not voters are aware of all the mud slinging and the nastiness that has gone on more covertly over the past 6 weeks. Bill Clinton of course began throwing the nastiest slings in South Carolina which enraged the black community costing Hillary support and for the first time caused the Democrats to openly stop defending the man, whom they should have dropped in the 90's. What goes around does eventually come back around, Bubba. There is something sweet about the people who once defended Bill Clinton to a fault turning their backs on him.
What Bill Clinton doesn't get is that this is not the 90's and there is no overwhelming need to carry on with the business of the country to encourage people to cover up for his misdeeds. Many people expected Hillary to divorce Bill after the Presidency was over, they thought she was just doing the right thing. This is what I heard repeated over and over in college and high school, by schoolmates and teachers. And when she did not drop him, but instead the two chose to live in separate houses for a fruitful political relationship, the gossip became oh, well they are just living apart and then will get a divorce after a time. But they never did and the gossip has become 'oh, well she just stayed with him so she could run for President....uh, oh geez, she just stayed with him so she COULD BECOME PRESIDENT?? AFTER ALL THAT?' And in light of Bill's recent campaign antics the whisper is she would be better off without him, but the truth is she can't leave him, because she needs him. Too bad she can't control him...
Anyways, the Obama and Clinton campaign (the latter of which has turned into a co campaign) have been fighting over the last few weeks. Hillary accused Obama of plagiarism, and then Obama responded that he borrowed a few lines from a friend, but Clinton's campaign continued to say that the lifting of lines meant Obama was fake and that his promises are fake,
and finally it became childish. What is clear is that the two candidates are locked in battle.
And it confuses people who have loved HIllary for years, who might be her best supporters that she is loosing now and the chance for a the first female president is going out the door. But really, the first female president should be phenomenal, someone who can kick butt and take names, not someone who is stuck playing schoolyard games and chasing after her husband. The results in Wisconsin tonight should provide more answers...
One can only wonder when Huckabee will finally call it a day.
