So to recap what you miss at night if you don't go out to CPAC's parties or in my case have a head cold and need to go home to rest, this party was on last night among others..it was a blast held by Stacy McCain and Matt Vadum until the hotel management cut it off..there are many luxury suites in the Omni Shoreham. In fact, it seems like the management spends most of the nights during CPAC breaking them up. Why? Because there are so many underage people at CPAC and they seem to show up EVERYWHERE.
Well, that and the hotel would prefer it if you buy their overinflated pricey alcohol. Moving along to the rest of the day.......that would be Friday. The President came to CPAC this morning at 7:30 am to address the CPAC audience, although he probably addressed mostly media and those people who were brave enough to stay up all night for his speech, since the doors opened at 5:15 for the event.
The President cautioned CPACers that a lot of the issues being brought up in the current Presidential campaign were really a forum on his failures as a President. So in our own interest, we should try to keep away from focusing on those failures too much or it could cause us all great harm.....maybe ending in a Hillary presidency or a little boy Barak.
Anyways, later in the morning Jim Nussle spoke to a CPAC audience that may or may not be aware of how great he is, since his career has mostly been around his district in Iowa, unless one is a fan of the budget committee in the House. He is now the head of OMB.
Another group of conservative stars were on the panel What Do Liberals Have Planned for Your Money? Rep. Paul Ryan of WI, Rep. Patrick McHenry of NC, Grover Norquist of ATR, Rep. Adam Putnam of FL at 9:30 after Nussle. All very interesting events with noteworthy speakers..but nothing super exciting to one focused on the presidential race..
Then Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton spoke at 3:00 PM. He provided a number of interesting and insightful thoughts on the current presidential race. He referenced the growing and disturbing sentiment among some conservatives that a bad Democrat presidency could be fruitful to the conservative movement. Many have already stated that having Hilary would not be too bad since she would obviously fail and the movement would gain brief energy from her failures. He referenced the fact though that her or Barak's potential failed presidency would only result in a virtual cutting of the movement's nose to spite it's face.
"The idea that we should have a democrat as president because it would make things worse (and convert people to more conservative ideas) is wrong. It' a communist idea that was held by Vladimir and the Bolsheviks, that worse is better to bring about cultural change is not an idea that works for us-that is putting conservatives issues before our safety. " He continued to say that " We don't want a president who is getting on the job training (Barak) or who can't deal with any stress (Clinton)".
He then ended his speech to say something that had meaning for the new clear front runner-John McCain. "I will be supporting John McCain in this election". The rest of his speech detailed the threat of North Korea and current issues in the world that he is of the utmost authority on....his main point that affects the election is that we must have a President who knows how to deal with the threats in the world without kowtowing to those who live with the luxury of protection in the U.S but do not appreciate it and instead want to push an international policy that leaves the U.S. vulnerable.
Anyways, it is 5:00 and this blogger has a reception to get to right now, more tomorrow.
