First things first about Mrs. Obama's statement on Monday that she is proud of the U.S 'for the first time in my adult life' in reference to her husband running for President. It's definitely been blown out of proportion, most Americans could hardly care even though most patriots were left hurt by the remark. It's doubtful that most people would even catch the statement's obvious neglect of all the other achievements that the U.S. has made over the last couple of decades. More importantly, the statement shows how little Mrs. Obama cares about politics, this probably is the most proud she has been of her country because she has spent little time following politics until now. And in fact, her ego is probably the most proud because it's her time to be shine as the media follows her husband...really, it's a personally vain statement. No need for debate.
The genius on the side of the McCain campaign was to steal the spotlight from the ever swirling Clinton's by countering Mrs. Obama's statement by having Cindy McCain stand up and say she's always been proud of her country. (See article link in last paragraph for exact quote). Obviously, the Clinton's and the Obama's have been fighting it out for the Democratic nomination and Hillary has definitely been loosing on the math end...but you never know....
Anyways, for the first time it is beginning to look like a McCain vs. Obama race could be the real deal and not just a vision for '08. Although that race is easy to determine, the minute Obama tries to debate with McCain he will be toasty toast compared to McCain's experience. One can't count on the Obama's doing anything to ruin their chances, except reveal more inexperience.
Flashback: in the first season of 30 Rock Tina Fey's character is asked who she would vote for, for president. She said ' I would say I was voting for Barack Obama, but then I would actually vote for John McCain.' Maybe that's why some liberals are getting nervous about Hillary's loss in Wisconsin and slipping numbers.
And then there is this interesting bit from Chris Mathews as he asks a state senator to answers some questions about Barack Obama. It appears from the footage, that Mathews is either a Clinton or McCain supporter. Or he could always just be a punk who likes to make low level politicians feel bad. It's hard to tell with Mathews, he enjoys torturing people so much..
But WAIT! It gets better, check this out!....really, what the huck is going on at MSNBC? It's all rather amusing to watch.
As ever, it is nice to know that Ron Paul will keep putting out the press releases, no matter what the situation. Recently, however his campaign committed a major
Ron Paul: Cuban Embargo Should End With Castro Resignation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Patrick Semmens
February 20, 2008 703-248-9115
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In light of the resignation of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro earlier today, Dr. Ron Paul, presidential candidate and member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement:
“Fidel Castro was a brutish dictator who for fifty years robbed the Cuban people of their liberty. While his resignation does not mean the end of communism in Cuba, it is good to see him go.
“Castro’s departure provides America a great opportunity to reflect on the current trade embargo against our island neighbor. The policy was designed to weaken the Castro regime, but I believe it actually helped him maintain control and allowed his thugs to hold power decades longer than they would have otherwise been able.
“Free trade and the open exchange of information are the best tools America has to combat international tyranny. The U.S. should quickly end the Cuban trade embargo. Cuban markets would be a great place for our farmers and businesses to sell their products. And, the power of free markets would quickly push out the remaining totalitarian remnant, finally ending the Communism in the Western Hemisphere.”
